Founded in September 2016, Nord Anglia Chinese International School (NACIS) Shanghai offers students a creative, challenging and rewarding learning experience. Students aged 6 to 18 years old are welcomed into our progressive and internationally-minded school community. We offer a distinctive bilingual, blended learning programme leading to the International Baccalaureate Diploma programme. Located in the Minhang District of Shanghai, the school has world class facilities that complement our innovative approach. We believe our Strategic Alliance with Nord Anglia Education gives us a special advantage. Unique opportunities such as the Global Campus, Nord Anglia University, and collaborations with The Juilliard School, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and King’s College London benefit both our students and staff.
Our Education Philosophy
Our Education Philosophy - Be Ambitious
United by a common philosophy – we are ambitious for our students, and our people. By ambitious, this means that we believe that there is no limit to what our students can achieve and we will support them to achieve more than they may have thought possible.
Learning at NACIS is a personalised, rewarding and challenging experience for our students. Our curriculum design principles are to foster language learning and understanding, cultivate international mindedness, promote personal development and life-long learning to enable students to become effective communicators.
Primary Stage of Learning
The curriculum for students in Grade 1 to Grade 5 is the Shanghai National Curriculum integrated with international elements from other well-respected global curriculums. Our aim is to nurture caring and innovative young global citizens. Our language and language learning philosophy, is centered on creating a bilingual environment for our students. Each Primary class has both a national and international Homeroom Teacher who are responsible for looking after the students’ pastoral and academic care.
Secondary Stage of Learning
The curriculum for Grade 6 to Grade 9 prepares students for the pathways they will follow into their next stage of learning. During these years, students continue to learn the core elements of the Shanghai National Curriculum, integrated with international elements to prepare them for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP). Each Secondary class has both a national and international Form Tutor who are responsible for looking after the students’ pastoral and academic care.
High School Stage of Learning
Pre - IBDP (Grade 10) and IBDP (Grades 11 and 12) students are encouraged to be independent learners and are therefore managed by a team of IBDP teachers led by the Head of IB. The Pastoral team and Higher Education team also work closely with these students to support in their overall well-being and preparation for making the best university choices and applications. The School is authorised as an IB World School to deliver the Diploma Programme (DP).

The MIT-Nord Anglia STEAM Programme
Helping your child invent the future
Succeeding in the 21st century means learning how to think, not what to think. Nord Anglia Education’s collaboration with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is designed to prepare students for our rapidly evolving world, equipping them with the skills and techniques to thrive. Through hands-on, interdisciplinary learning of STEAM subjects (science, technology, engineering, art and maths), your child will develop the transferrable skills needed to invent the future they will ultimately inherit.
